Good morning! Do you deal much with stress? I tend to. By personality type, I am very introspective as well as future oriented. As with most things, there are positives and negatives to those characteristics. The negative is that I can project alternatives to the future that are worrisome and then being introspective I can worry over them like a dog gnawing on a bone. That produces stress in me. The sad thing is I am spending a lot of time stressed out over things that may not, and probably won’t, ever occur!

Another producer of stress is unmet expectations. Peter Bregman has a good article on this in the Harvard Business Review blog. Basically we get stressed out when our expectations are not met. But the sad thing is that most of those unmet expectations deal with things of such unimportance in the light of eternity! As Bregman says, we often are stressed about things that only rate a 1 or 2 on a scale of 10. Sadly that is true of me. And then to make matters worse, it is often about matters of our personal convenience as if we were owed something!!

It seems that most of my stress is caused by focusing on myself instead of the Lord and others. It is usually a matter of perspective. When I am taking the short view and looking at me, I get stressed. When I take the perspective of eternity and keep my eyes first on Jesus and then on others, the stress seems to go away. Funny how that works.

Try a stress free day today – focus on Christ and others and see how much less stress an eternal perspective gives you.

Rest in Him today,
