“Whoever rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than he who flatters with his tongue.” – Proverbs 28:23
Do you ever struggle with the temptation to tell those who are important in your life, especially your authorities, what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear? Are you too concerned with what they think of you? I know that I often do. I often struggle with telling people I care about (and whose approval I want) things they need to hear, but things that won’t make them happy.
The odd thing is that while they may not be pleased at first, in the long run they will respect you and come to trust you as they know you will tell them the truth. I read in a book once the question, “Why would you withhold something from someone you care about that will help them?” The answer is that we are so self-centered. We don’t want to deal with the discomfort of dealing with hard things.
So be willing to be uncomfortable in order to better serve and care for those you care about. Be willing to share truth, even if it costs you.
Grace and peace to you today,
